In 2006 we relocated from Dunedin to Dry Paddocks in the Waipara Valley, North Canterbury.
We……….as in myself, a garden designer, publisher husband, with dog and elderly cat (now geriatric).
Why Dry Paddocks? that is the name we gave to the two bare paddocks we purchased for obvious reasons. Our rainfall is not excessive, we have gravelly free draining soil, and dry hot Nor’West winds that do an excellent job of removing moisture from the soil.
We think we have moved to a very special part of NZ, where you can celebrate each distinct season, enjoy eating locally and savour seasonal tastes, partnered with some stunning Waipara wines. This is the space where I get to share what happens here in the valley, and in our own patch at Dry Paddocks.
I look after our guest accommodation, and in between times I can be found somewhere in our 17 acres, gardening, or cooking, often with a camera in hand trying to capture that elusive moment that translates to a special photo.
